Latest US election: Comedian under fire after Trump rally as presidential candidates head to key states | US News

A comedian has come under fire for making an offensive joke about Puerto Rico and Latin Americans at Donald Trump’s rally tonight in New York.

Tony Hinchcliffe described Puerto Rico on stage as a “floating island of garbage.”

“I don’t know if you know this, but right now there is literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean,” he said.

“I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

A loud “ooh” was heard from the crowd, which seemed to drown out the sound of laughter.

He also said he welcomes immigrants to the United States “with open arms,” before adding “and by open arms I mean like this…” and waving his arms in front of him, as if to say “no.”

“These Latinos love having babies too, just know that they love it, they love it,” she also said.

“They can’t leave, they don’t do that, they come in just like they did with our country.”

Trump has regularly been criticized for his rhetoric about immigrants and has said he will carry out the largest deportation in U.S. history if he wins the election.

‘Know that’s what they think of you’

Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of Puerto Rican descent and born in New York, reacted to the comments during a live broadcast with Kamala Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz.

“When you have some idiot calling Puerto Rico ‘floating garbage,’ know that’s what they think of you,” he said.

“It’s what they think of anyone who makes less money than them.”
