Near record heat today, dangerous wind on Tuesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Storm systems continue to develop across the north-central Plains, creating windy conditions today with gusts that could reach up to 45 mph. 20 to 30 mph will be common this morning from the southeast. This can make getting around more difficult, especially along the northern or southern ends of the loop or perhaps I-70. Due to southerly winds, warm air will seep in temperatures that will quickly rise to between 82° and 85°, tying or breaking highs for this day set in 1944.

Heading into Tuesday, we don’t anticipate breaking any heat records, but temperatures in the 80s will remain as winds intensify. We anticipate wind advisories on Tuesday, especially during the afternoon, as gusts could reach up to 50 mph. With these types of winds, small pieces of debris can become projectiles, high-profile vehicles will have an extremely difficult time navigating interstates and highways in general. Even certain outdoor activities may be postponed or cancelled. Because of this, we have added a First Warning to Tuesday’s forecast.

The storm system will arrive on Wednesday and we have new information that now adds a level two severe weather risk to the area. This means there is a chance for isolated severe thunderstorms to develop in the region, including the metro. The timing of storm activity is most likely toward the end of the day, around the time you finish work and head home. Storms will develop from the west between 4 and 6 p.m.

With the conditions we expect in the atmosphere on Wednesday, our severe weather hazards are most likely from dangerously strong winds that may gust between 60 and 70 mph and moderate to large hail, potentially a quarter to an egg in size. hen. There are also signs of rotation possibly developing south of our viewing area, but we cannot rule out an isolated threat even to our region. Stay with KCTV5 and their First Warn Weather team as we continue to monitor.

The good news is that this front should emerge around 4 or 5 a.m. on Thursday, which is Halloween morning. It will usher in some cooler air from the north that will keep temperatures in the upper 50s through the afternoon. Mostly clear skies with light winds are expected. This continues into the evening, where temperatures should slowly fall into the upper 40s and low 50s between 8 and 9 pm. The wind should be light.

As we head into next weekend, another storm system is building more confidence in scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Right now, confidence is high. We are issuing First Warnings for scattered wet weather on Saturday and Sunday. The intensity or severity is not determined, but we see that umbrellas are likely. Temperatures will be seasonally in the low to mid 60s.
