Watch: Ted Danson finds new purpose and friends in ‘A Man on the Inside’

Oct. 28 (UPI) — Ted Danson (The good place) goes incognito to a nursing home in A man insidefinding a renewed sense of purpose along the way.

In a preview released Monday, viewers see Charles (Danson) waking up and going through the monotonous morning routine.

Viewers hear her daughter, Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis), express her concern.

“He’s already retired,” he says. “When mom was alive, they lived a big, full life.”

The trailer then shows Emily sitting across from her father.

“I’m giving you a challenge,” he says. “Find something that excites you.”

“It’s a good challenge. I accept it,” he responds.

When you see an ad for a “research assistant” between 75 and 85 years old, you jump at the opportunity to try something new.

A family heirloom goes missing at a senior living community, and he’s hired to move there, posing as a resident while trying to solve the case.

The series, which consists of eight episodes, is based on the documentary The mole agent.

“I knew almost nothing about (The mole agent), and I fell so much in love. The hero, Sergio, is wonderfully created, he’s so real, he’s a lovely human being,” said executive producer Mike Schur (The good place) he told Netflix’s Tudum. “It’s a beautiful meditation on aging, a topic that we in this country are particularly terrible at confronting, dealing with, or discussing.”

He said the idea for an adaptation came from his colleague Morgan Sackett, who suggested Danson for the lead role.

“As soon as we had that idea, things happened very quickly,” he said.

Stephanie Beatriz, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sally Struthers, Eugene Cordero, Margaret Avery, John Getz, Susan RutanLori Tan Chinn, Clyde Kusatsu, Marc Evan Jackson and Jama Williamson also star.

The series will air on Netflix. November 21.
