A worried benefit claimant said they were “afraid to look for online work” in case it resulted in the Department of Labor and Pensions (DWP) Remove what “they trust to survive.”

The Reddit user, who receives the payment of personal independence (PIP) and Universal Credit (UC), he said that ‘finally’ they felt able to look for work, if they could find an adequate remote work position.

However, they were “terrified” to explore their options, for fear that they would be marked during a benefit review, so it had been “postponing it.”

Publishing in the forum to ask for advice, they said: “I have been in benefits during most of my adult life.

“I am finally in a position, I feel that maybe I could work from home remotely and I want I have been postponing it. “

They continued: “It may not go to anything. I am classified as a severely mentally disabled and, therefore, I cannot always do the things I would like to do, but I have improved to the point that at least I would like to try.

“I simply worry that I would seek to do this, especially if it turns out to be in vain, I could take away what I trust to survive.

“Any advice is welcome!”

An answer said: “Your pip is not affected at all by you working or not working, and definitely not only investigates work options.

“He did not specify what his status is at UC, if he has work/focused search commitments, but they are exactly on that, investigating what kind of jobs are available to you.

“So I am not completely sure what your concern is and how your work research is supposed to negatively affect its benefits.”

Another said: “You can be in full -time work and claim PIP.

“You should only make sure they understand how you can do the work you find, so adaptations (work from home, reduced hours, flexible work, such as examples).

“If you have a limited capacity for work and work -related activity (LCWRA) for UC, which I suppose it is, it is the same.

“Helping them understand how you can manage the work you have, but you couldn’t get full -time work outside your home.

“You can work as much as you can. The first one you wins is ignored as profits (how much depends on whether you have been paid rental or not) after that amount, it will be reduced by 55p for every £ you. Win.

“Try not to worry, try it. Good luck!”

A third response said: “I think you would be fine, just the time I would become a problem, obviously, if you found something and started working without informing them, but I don’t think it’s bad to explore the world of work in small steps” .
