County leaders sign the resolution, against the proposal of Paris Mountain Hotel

Greenville, SC (Fox Carolina) – A proposal to build a luxury hotel in Paris Mountain continues to withdraw residents from residents. And now, several county leaders join the opposition.

“It’s a good hotel. It is a bad place to say it and the wrong way of doing so, ”said Councilman Steve Shaw, District 20.

“Save Paris Mountain”, a Shaw phrase says he listens daily since the developers announced plans to build the inn on Altamont.

“Paris Mountain is a special place, sometimes I say it as our central park. It is right in the middle, everything will grow around it, but we don’t have to have things that grow at the top of Paris Mountain, ”he said.

When joining organizations such as Upstate Forever and the SC Environmental Law project, Shaw has written a resolution that opposes the hotel project. The resolution is backed by seven other council leaders;

District 18 – Kelly Long

District 19 – Benton Blount

District 20 – Steve Shaw

District 21 – Curt McGahhey

District 22 – Frank Farmer

District 25 – Ennis Fant, Mr.

District 26 – Rick Bradley

District 27 – Garey Collins

The County Council does not have enough teeth to stop the project, but the resolution sends a strong message to the leaders in the Council of the City of Travelers who do it.

“The message is that this type of annexation is unacceptable. It will put a serious tension between the county and the city and any city that does something like this, ”said Shaw.

The resolution indicates that under the county, a part of the project is divided into areas as environmental sensitive, made to protect the land from development. Shaw feels that the hotel would benefit the developer and the city at the expense of Paris Mountain residents.

“So we have a problem to get rid of surface water. We have a problem to obtain fresh water and we do not have the infrastructure to handle projects like this, ”he said.

Krut Patel, CEO of Divine Group, published the following statements on the proposals of the Greenville County Council to oppose the inn in Altamont and rewrite the zoning regulations:

Residents will have the opportunity to express their concerns and listen to the developer at a community meeting on Thursday, February 27 at 6pm at Greenville Event Center in Beverly Road.
