Adnan Syed was convicted of murdering his Hae Min Lee high school girlfriend and spent more than two decades after bars. After his story was chronic in the “serial” podcast, his conviction was unemployed by a judge and was released. That conviction was reinstalled later. NBC News Lester Holt spoke exclusively with the lawyer of the city of New Baltimore, Ivan Bates, about why the fight to cancel that conviction is ending and why it supports a reduction in the Syed sentence.
