Former owner’s ex-wife testifies at the trial for murder for hate crimes of the municipality of Plainfield-Shaw Local

The ex -wife of a former Plainfield Municipality The owner in trial for the murder of hate crimes of a Muslim child said he was withdrawn, quiet and fearful that his tenant’s friends damage him due to Hamas 2023 attack against Israel.

Mary Connor, formerly Mary Czuba, was called by prosecutors on Wednesday to testify in your case against Joseph Czuba, 73, accused of the murder of Wadoe Alfayoumi, 6, and the murder attempt of Wadee’s mother, Hanan Shaheen, a Muslim woman from Jerusalem.

Shaheen and his son were tenants in the residence of Czuba between 2021 and 2023. Prosecutors said Czuba was concerned about the attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023 against Israel “was going to reach his door.”

Prosecutors said Czuba attacked Shaheen and killed Wadee based on his Islamic faith.

Connor was the last witness called the second day of Czuba’s trial. He finished his 30 -year marriage with Czuba after his arrest for murder positions, attempted murder and hate crime.

“I never thought something like this could happen,” said Connor.

Connor said he was in his work in the morning that Wadee was killed and that his mother attacked.

In judicial documents, prosecutors said Connor told the Police that Czuba regularly listened to the conservative conversation radio, but that did not arise in his testimony on Wednesday.

Connor and Czuba are appointed as accused in a demand for unfair death filed By Shaheen lawyers in Will court.

Shaheen’s demand accused Connor of not warning that Czuba represented a risk of damage to her and her son.

Connor said that before Shaheen and his son moved to the Czuba residence as tenants, she and Czuba learned that Shaheen was a Muslim of Palestinian descent.

That knowledge had no impact on the decision to allow Shaheen and his son to stay in the residence, said Connor.

Connor said that Czuba is Catholic and the two regularly attended the Church. She said she never saw Czuba express any hatred towards others based on her religion or ethnicity during her marriage.

Shaheen and Wadee were “very good,” said Connor. His stay in the residence was a positive experience for two years and Shaheen was “very educated, very loving and very friendly,” he said.

During that time, Connor said he learned how Czuba was worried that Wadee approached a road and would like to move him away. Czuba would also get articles for Wadee, such as an explosive pool, toys and sports teams, he said.

Connor said he never saw any argument or altercation between Czuba and Shaheen.

All that changed on October 10, 2023, when Czuba told Connor: “Mary, I feel that Hanan needs to move,” according to Connor’s testimony. She said she asked why.

Connor said Czuba asked him if he knows what happened in Israel. Connor said her ex -husband told her that Shaheen’s friends could come to her residence and damage them.

But Connor said he told Czuba that Shaheen never had guests. However, Czuba felt their lives could be in danger, he said.

“I was angry because I was even asking (Shaheen) to move,” said Connor.

Connor said he told Czuba that they needed to provide Shaheen for a 30 -day written notice according to his lease.

“I didn’t want (Shaheen) to move,” said Connor.

Connor said that at some point, Czuba was worried about a “day of yihad” that occurs on October 13, 2023. His fear of banking accident led him to get $ 1,000 from the bank, he said.

“I was quiet that week,” said Connor.

She also described him as “retired” during the week that ended with the death of Wadee.

Czuba “can fix anything”, but I didn’t want to immediately fix the thermostat in its residence on October 13, 2023, said Connor. As a result, the house temperature was cold, he said.

Connor said that Czuba did not tell her any plan to get Shaheen out of the residence or a plan to take violent measures against her.
