Six nations 2025: Captain of Ireland Caelan Doris ‘with a shout’ back against France

The captain of Ireland, Caelan Doris, is “with a cry of being involved” in the game of the six nations next week against France, says striker coach Paul O’Connell.

The back row, Doris, the victory over Wales was lost in Cardiff with a knee injury, but trained with the team during Thursday’s open session at the Aviva stadium.

Hooker Ronan Kelleher has also returned to training after missing the set of Wales with a neck problem, while O’Connell was equally optimistic about the number eight of Jack Conan (back) and Tadhg Furlong (calf and ischiotibial).

“Everyone is fine,” said O’Connell.

“Caelan has been working during the past week, ran today, so he is certainly with a cry of being involved. Jack Conan is taking care of his back, wounded him in one haul the other day, but we would be quite sure that he will be fine.

“I know Ronan Kelleher trained today. No one is discarded. They all carry potholes and bruises, but everyone is fine.

“Tadhg Furlong returned with his province and will join next week. No one was ruled out at this time.”

When asked about Furlong, which has not yet appeared in this year’s tournament that also lost the November tests, O’Connell said that the 32 -year -old man has had “some false beginnings” with his rehabilitation.

“He wants to be sure about it,” O’Connell explained.

“Doctors want to be sure of that and have no other false beginning. I would say that if I had no story with that calf, I would be back, but they just want to make sure and he wants to feel safe and sure of himself.”

PACESETTERS Ireland, who pursues a third record, receives France secondly in Dublin on March 8 before facing Italy in Rome in the final round on March 15.
