The CT Attorney General weighs a $ 5 million agreement with Stone Academy

Hartford, CT (WFSB) – A $ 5 million agreement was reached between the missing Stone Academy and its owners.

The agreement received the Court’s approval this week. It was first announced last month.

The agreement resolves the claims filed by the students for unfair and misleading conduct by the Nursing School, according to Connecticut Attorney General William Tong.

“Stone Academy was a scam,” Tong said. “Today, their leaders are responsible, and their students will see millions of dollars in compensation for the time and money they invested in an education they never received. We remain committed to stone students and we will continue to support them in the search for additional relief, including loan forgiveness, possible state help and new training, to provide each possible remedy. “

Tong said the specific compensation for affected students will be determined through a private class action process.

The State will not retain any of the $ 5 million, apart from $ 150,000 that will be used to help stone students to prepare for output exams, the attorney general explained.

According to Tong, Stone promised an education that would position students to become practical licensed nurses in less than 2 years with practical training of industry leaders. Instead, It closed abruptly in February 2023while the students were still registered.

Tong said Stone lacked textbooks and experienced teachers, and did not meet the promised and necessary clinical training.

“While the students struggled with deficient materials in classrooms without streets, the state investigation revealed that Stone received millions of dollars in income and continued to register new students in their programs,” said the Tong office.
