Tucker County man found guilty of murdering brother over property dispute

STREET. GEORGE, W.Va (WDTV) – A jury in Tucker County found a man guilty of the first-degree murder of his brother.

Robert Tennant was found guilty of first degree murder for the April 2023 shooting death of his brother, Edward Tennant, following an ongoing property dispute in the St. George area of ​​Tucker County.

The jury deliberated for 31 minutes before returning with the guilty verdict Thursday, according to Tucker County Prosecutor Savannah Wilkins. They also recommended that he receive no clemency, meaning Tennant will never be eligible for parole.

At the time of his arrest, Tennant told police that he shot his brother “because he was an ‘asshole'” and that he “took the monkey off his shoulder.” He also said he had “been planning this since Saturday,” court documents say, leading to the first-degree murder charge.

Tennant’s sentencing is set for Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. before Tucker/Grant/Mineral County Circuit Judge James Courrier, where he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
