Bears WR breaks down teammate’s silly play on Hail Mary

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore made his weekly appearance on the Mully and Haugh Show on Mondays.

Among the topics he discussed were teammate Tyrique Stevenson’s brazen actions before and during the Washington Commanders meeting. Hail Mary game winner in Chicago’s 18-15 loss on Sunday.

The cornerback spent the moments before the snap (and the first few seconds of Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’ scramble) taunting Washington fans in the crowd on the other side of the field. Stevenson then ran after realizing the play had started, reached the center of the action, jumped and tipped the ball into the air before it fell into the hands of wide receiver Noah Brown in the end zone.

The second-year pro apologized for his actions Sunday night.

Moore, one of the Bears’ captains, said he and the other captains will discuss Stevenson’s situation in the near future.

He said he didn’t see Stevenson’s actions as the play unfolded, but saw them “just as everyone else has seen them (on social media).”

“The captains were talking about how we really need to address that. I saw him say something saying he was sorry, but we still need to address it as a leadership group in front of the team,” Moore said. “I don’t know (what the punishment will be), that’s not up to us… But we can approach it as captains, and at the top they’ll have to do what they’re going to do.”

The 2018 first-round pick added that it’s a “lesson learned, for sure” for Stevenson, but “he’s not going to do that again.”

“But if you put him on the bench it’s like that play, it’s an important play, but that play doesn’t define him as a player,” Moore said.
