United want Amorim

The Athletic reports that Manchester United have already started working to appoint Rubén Amorim as manager.

The Sporting CP boss was linked with the Liverpool vacancy before Arne Slot was given the job, but is said to be willing to consider a move to Old Trafford.

The website writes: “Manchester United are working on an agreement to appoint Rubén Amorim of Sporting Lisbon as their new coach.

“Sources in Portugal, who spoke anonymously because they are not authorized to discuss the matter, told The Athletic that the 39-year-old is open to taking advantage of the opportunity after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday.

“United are willing to pay the €10m (£8.3m) release clause in his contract with the two clubs in talks to finalize a deal that could see Ruud van Nistelrooy take over as interim boss sooner. of the arrival of Amorim.

“Amorim has become one of Europe’s most sought-after young managers after a run of success with the Portuguese club, and United moved quickly after making him their number one target to replace Ten Hag.”

Terzic named as possible replacement

Former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic is also a possible replacement for the fired Dutchman Ten Hag.

With Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate out of the running, The Sun puts Terzic’s name on the scene.

paper reports: “Edin Terzic has rocketed to the top of Manchester United’s wish list as they look for replacements for the sacked Erik Ten Hag.

“The Dutchman was sacked as the club languished in 14th place following a shock 2-1 defeat to West Ham, with the club also failing to win in their three Europa League games.

“Thomas Tuchel headed the shortlist to replace Ten Hag.

“But the former Dortmund, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager is no longer available after the FA swooped on him to appoint him England manager.

“Gareth Southgate was also a front-runner but recently suggested he did not want to rush back into management and could take a full year off.

“So United are now focusing on Edin Terzic, after SunSport exclusively revealed he was a new favorite earlier this month.”

Solskjaer could bring Utd back

Another name mentioned is former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who would be a more affordable option.

With Ten Hag’s compensation yet to be agreed, United could be under financial pressure.

“Manchester United do not rule out approaching Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after sacking Erik ten Hag,” said the The daily mail explains.

“Ten Hag was sacked this morning after two and a half years in charge and the 2-1 defeat to West Ham condemned United to 14th place in the Premier League.

“United have won just three of their first nine top-flight games and are 21st in the new Europa League, having drawn their first three games.

“Ten Hag could cost United around £17m in compensation and this may lead to a move for Solskjaer, who has been out of management since being sacked by the Red Devils in November 2021. Indeed, it is said that “He is in the fight to return.”

Ten Hag wants considerable compensation

After signing a new contract in the summer with Manchester United, Ten Hag is expecting significant compensation.

The Daily Star lists £7m as the minimum figure he could be owed following his departure.

The document states: “Erik ten Hag wants to receive significant compensation after his dismissal from Manchester United.

“United announced that Ten Hag had left his position at the club following the controversial 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday. The result left the Red Devils with just one win in their last eight games, a run that dates back to the 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

“The decision to sack Ten Hag was unanimous between Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Barrada, Ineos sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford and United sporting director Dan Ashworth. And it is said that the Dutchman accepted the decision willingly.

“He had run out of excuses and instructed his legal team, including agent Kees Vos, to begin negotiations over compensation which could exceed £7m. “Ten Hag signed a new contract extension until 2026 with United in the summer.”
