Driver killed, another seriously injured in intense three-vehicle crash on Garden State Parkway

One driver was killed and another was seriously injured early Saturday in a three-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Tinton Falls, authorities said.

Three cars were traveling southbound on the highway at 4:20 a.m. near mile marker 102.8 when two collided head-on, State Police said.

The third vehicle then rear-ended the two vehicles involved in the initial accident.

The driver of the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames, died at the scene.

A 23-year-old Brick man, who was driving another car, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries.

State police did not identify the slain driver and said Tuesday morning that family notifications are not complete.

A spokesman also said Tuesday that he had no information about how the head-on crash occurred, citing the ongoing investigation.
