Argentine judge charges five people in connection with the death of One Direction star Liam Payne

An Argentine judge has approved charges against five people in connection with the tragic death of former One Direction pop star Liam Payne.

Two of the defendants were remanded in custody for supplying drugs to Payne before his death. Autopsy reports found alcohol and cocaine in the 31-year-old singer’s system at the time of his death.

A judicial official confirmed the judge’s decision and added that one of the two charged with preventive detention, which is a form of preventive detention, was an employee of the hotel in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, where Payne was staying.

The officer said the other person was a waiter Payne had met at a restaurant. Both suspects face charges of drug supply and are due to appear in court.

Three others were charged with involuntary manslaughter. A businessman who had accompanied Payne in Argentina during his trip and two hotel managers.

In November, prosecutors filed initial charges against three people, but did not reveal their names.

Payne, who was British, fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at his hotel in the exclusive Palermo neighborhood.

His autopsy confirmed the cause of death as external hemorrhage from multiple injuries sustained from impact, external hemorrhage and trauma.

Prosecutors also said toxicology tests on Payne showed traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his system moments before his death.

The autopsy also ruled out self-harm and the physical intervention of others as other possible causes of death. He added that the global sensation did not have the reflex to protect himself as he fell, suggesting that the singer may have been unconscious, which justified a possible accident.

Argentine prosecutors also ruled out the possibility of suicide.

One Direction was among the most successful boy bands of recent times. He announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016 and Payne, like his former bandmates Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, pursued a solo career.
