The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has reiterated the call for the immediate approval of revised salaries and benefits for its members, signaling a possible strike if delays persist.

According to JUSAG, the Judicial Council has concluded its review of the salary and benefits structure, submitting recommendations to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in accordance with Article 149 of the Constitution.

In a statement dated 31 December 2024, the association took note of the President’s directive to Parliament on the budgets of the Audit Service, the Parliamentary Service and the Judicial Service. This development, which includes provisions for compensation, was received with cautious optimism by JUSAG.

However, the association expressed frustration over delays in the approval process and highlighted that its National Executive Council (NEC) has asked Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to expedite the matter.

“As of December 30, we have been informed that the Judicial Council’s recommendations are being seriously considered by the President and have been forwarded to the Minister of Finance for further action,” the statement read.

While JUSAG acknowledged that these updates were promising, it maintained that any further delay could trigger a strike.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. If the revised salary structure is not approved and implemented without undue delay, we are prepared to initiate a series of industrial actions to ensure that the government addresses our concerns,” the association warned.

JUSAG’s strong stance underlines its commitment to ensuring fair compensation for its members, urging swift government action to avoid disruptions within the judicial service.
