Person dies in accident in Havelock North; two seriously injured

An overnight accident near Havelock North has claimed possibly the latest death of the public holiday toll period.

Police were called about 10pm on Thursday to Foster Lane, on the southern rural outskirts of Havelock North, where a car had left the road and crashed into a bank.

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured, police said, but further details were not yet available.

The Serious Accident Unit had examined the scene and investigations were being carried out into the circumstances of the accident.

It was the second death on Hawke’s Bay roads during the police and Ministry of Transport’s Christmas and New Year road toll period which began at 4pm on December 24 and ended at 6am on December 3. January, the first being that of a man who fell from a vehicle. at Nuffield Ave, Marewa, Napier, on the night of December 27.
