GIPS and GIEA reach agreement for the 2025-2026 school year

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) and the Grand Island Education Association (GIEA) have reached a negotiated agreement for the 2025-2026 school year.

The GIPS Board of Education approved the agreement after reconvening from an executive session during the December board meeting. Key changes focus on increasing base pay and improving staff leave.

“The Grand Island Education Association shares the district’s focus on recruiting and retaining quality staff,” said Michelle Carter, GIEA president and fifth-grade teacher at Dodge Elementary School. “We believe the 2025-2026 proposal reflects that commitment and we are pleased that our members responded with a 100% vote in favor of approval.”

The Board approved a 5.49% increase in salaries and benefits. GIPS said it remains committed to supporting and retaining teachers by offering competitive compensation and benefits.

“In order for Grand Island Public Schools to provide the necessary education to the students we serve, we must have excellent teachers.” Matt Fisher, superintendent of GIPS, said, “This agreement positions the district to retain and recruit top-notch educators.”

Compensation packages for administrative and classified staff will be addressed in spring 2025 for the 2025-26 school year.
