Helmut Marko is already pushing for an ‘outstanding’ driver to replace Yuki Tsunoda in 2026

For most Formula 1 drivers, their careers are a series of sliding-door moments.

A single result can make or break a driver’s career, ask Nyck de Vries after a one-off ride for Williams in 2022 earned him a seat at AlphaTauri, now racing bulls.

Although De Vries only lasted half a season, he showed that in F1 anything can happen under the right circumstances.

Four seasons into his Formula 1 career, Yuki Tsunoda was facing his best opportunity yet to finally earn his coveted promotion to red bull.

Tsunoda admitted that his dream is to race for Red Bull one daybut unfortunately the decision was not what I wanted.

a report of Autorunner suggests that Marko is already looking for a possible replacement for Tsunoda when the sport’s new regulations are introduced in 2026.

The report from the Italian media suggests that Marko is willing to ‘bet big’ on the Red Bull academy and in particular Arvid Lindblad in the near future.

Lindblad was the youngest driver in Formula 3 last season, but still managed to finish fourth in the championship, winning four races, including the first of the season in Bahrain.

The British teenager will compete for Campos in F2 in 2025, but not before taking part in the Formula Oceania Regional Championship, a move designed to help him earn points towards an FIA Superlicence.

Marko has described Lindblad as exceptional on the Inside Line Podcast and has high hopes for the 17-year-old.

Lindblad will turn 18 in August, meaning he will try to follow in the footsteps of Mercedes youngster Andrea Kimi Antonelli by entering F1 at that age.

Marko has shown “little patience” when it comes to talents like Lindblad and the report claims he could “push for a quick jump to F1” to replace Tsunoda if Lindblad starts brightly in Formula 2.

Tsunoda expected to leave Racing Bulls next winter, as Honda’s partnership with the Red Bull group is coming to an end.

The Japanese driver has been on the verge of promotion on several occasions and fired teammate after teammate without standing out enough for Horner’s liking.

In an ideal world, Racing Bulls could have gone for Franco Colapinto if it was cheaper to release him from his Williams deal.

Red Bull has doubts about Hadjar and if he underperforms, Lindblad will want to make sure he is available to fill any of the Racing Bulls seats if available.

There hasn’t been this much excitement for a Red Bull youngster since Verstappen, but Lindblad will be aware of how much work he still needs to do before reaching F1.
