Stormant leaders urge the network supplier to compensate customers without energy

Stormant’s leaders have asked the Northern Ireland energy networks provider, Nie Networks, who offer goodwill payments to those who remain without energy after Storm Eowyn.

Prime Minister Michelle O’Neill and Prime Minister Emma Little-Pengelly stressed that compensation payments were available in Scotland for affected customers.

Some 65,000 homes and businesses remain without energy in Northern Ireland, and some people said they could be waiting until they are reconnected on February 3.

Niet Networks said Monday that the supply had been restored to 220,000 clients so far.

Ten schools in Northern Ireland remained closed on Monday due to storm damage, with around 80 schools not yet connected to the electricity grid.

Around 150 schools suffered damage to the storm.

Mrs. O’Neill and Mrs. Little-Pengelly pressed Nieve officials on the issue of compensation during a Stormant meeting on Monday morning.

Update to the reporters after the buildings of the Parliament in Belfast, Mrs. O’Neill said: “We have asked to deny that it analyze the issue of compensation, because we believe it is important that people receive support during these difficult days.”

She added: “These companies get significant profits every year. They must ensure that payment of good will now in a moment of necessity. ”

Mrs. Little-Pengelly said: “We understand that this is what is happening with Scottish companies, Energy companies in Scotland in relation to the same storm.

“We see no reason why this should not happen here.

“So we are urging Nie to leave, consider that and return to us very quickly with an indication of what they want to do, because we know that those who do not have electricity and water suffer real difficulties.”

She added: “I think it is the right thing to intensify and make a goodwill payment and do not wait for those additional discussions in due time with the public service regulator or elsewhere.

“They can make a goodwill, it is our understanding. So that’s what we are urging to do. “

Niet Networks has been approached to comment.
