The Durban Super Giants won the toss and elected to bat in their Betway SA20 match against the high-flying Paarl Royals at a sold-out Boland Park in Paarl on Monday.

The respective fortunes of the two teams could not be more different. The home team’s campaign is going swimmingly at the top of the table, with only one defeat so far. DSG’s situation, however, is dire. They have played eight games and have achieved only eight points, 16 behind tonight’s opponent after having played one more game. So far they have only won the first game of the campaign, and that was by chance.

Surprisingly, they still have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs, assuming other results go in their favor, but they will have to win their last two games, both away from home, if they want to activate even that slim chance.
