The Supreme Court orders the man to pay ₹ 3 Lakh to the bride for breaking the marriage for the demand for gold

The marriage between the two was solemnized in 2006, but ended shortly after, which led to a complaint of 2007 that implies Venkateswaran, his late father and his brother under section 498a IPC (cruelty to the wife), Section 406 CPI ( criminal breach), section 420 CPI (trap), section 506 (2) CPI (criminal intimidation) and section 4 of the Downy prohibition law (penalty for the demanding dowry).

The Court of First Instance acquitted the brother of the appellant of all the positions and acquitted the appellant of charges under section 420 CPI (trap) and section 506 IPC (criminal intimidation) but condemned it under sections 498a and 406 CPI and the section 4 of the Downy prohibition law (penalty (penalty of penalty by demanding dowry).

He was sentenced to three years in jail under section 498a CPI and one year under section 4 of Downy’s prohibition law.

Rotating to the Order of Trail Court, the appellant in 2017 challenged him before the Additional Sessions Judge. Additional sessions reserved the conviction under section 406 CPI but confirmed the remaining sentences.

In 2022, the Superior Court of Madras also confirmed the conviction, but reduced the sentence under section 498a IPC to two years while retaining the sentence of one year under the DP Law of Section 4.
