Maha Kumbh 2025: Air rates shoot when Chennai to Prayagraj Ticket costs more than London’s flight – Tendency News

As millions prepare for Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, airlines have significantly increased ticket prices, which makes it travel more expensive than international trips. A unidirectional ticket from Chennai to Prayagraj has increased to 70,996 rupees, far exceeding the 31,342 rupee for a flight to London.

Price increases are particularly evident in key bath days, such as Mauni Amavasya Snan (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12) and Mahashivratri (February 26). On January 31, a Delhi trip ticket to Prayagraj costs RS 33,590, almost seven times the usual RS 5,000 rate. Similar trends are visible from other metropolitan cities, where rates now range between RS 18,000 and RS 41,106.

DGCA passes in the midst of public indignation

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has urged airlines to rationalize air rates after concerns about exploitation prices were raised. In response to the increase in demand, the DGCA has approved 81 additional flights in January, which carries the total number of flights to Prayagraj to 132.

Political reaction

Rajya Sabha deputy Raghav Chadha criticized the airlines for taking advantage of the devotees. In a video posted on the social media platform X (previously Twitter), he said, “In normal days, flights to Prayagraj cost RS 5,000-8,000. Today, they have a price of RS 50,000-60,000. Lakhs of the devotees are suffering for this. ”

He urged the union government to intervene and guarantee fair prices for pilgrims. “Airlines are benefiting from religious feelings. The government must act to make trips affordable for all those attending Maha Kumbh, ”added Chadha.

With the demand that continues to increase and in the regulation of the air rate in question, the devotees who hope to participate in the Holy Dip face a financial challenge before their spiritual journey.
