Carmichael votes for Waspi compensation

The deputy of the Islands of the North, Alistair Carmichael, voted to reverse the government’s decision not to compensate for Waspi women.

Last year, the defender of the parliamentary people and health service (PHSO) recommended that the government apologize and pay compensation for women affected by the mismanagement of poor administration in changes in the state of state pension.

This was due to changes that are not communicated correctly between 1995 and 2007.

The parliamentarians voted from 115 to 0 to advance a bill that would require the government to implement the recommendations.

Mr. Carmichael expressed support to those affected by the increase.

“While the great and SNP game on this vote have been counterproductive, since conservative and labor parliamentarians do not support these women is an immense disappointment.

“The findings of the defender of the parliamentary people and the independent health service were clear: the government could not provide precise, adequate and timely information to women affected by changes in state pensions.

He added: “It makes no sense to ask the PHSO to give recommendations if they are simply ignored. I will continue to support your compensation, as recommended by the PHSO. “
