Woman condemned for drug smuggling, goods in the federal installation of Williamsburg Co.

Williamsburg County, SC (WCSC) – A woman elgin previously used as a correctional officer in Williamsburg County has been convicted of what prosecutors call a bribery and drug scheme.

A federal jury found Angela Crosland, 51, guilty of bribery, money laundering, distribution of methamphetamine and suboxone and presenting false declarations of income taxes. They returned their verdict after a two -day trial.

In the trial, the evidence shown to the jury showed that, while Crosland was employed as a correctional officer in the Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg in Salters, smuggling in smuggling in exchange for money.

Prosecutors say that smuggling included subooxone, methamphetamine, papers soaked in K2, marijuana, tobacco, food and other articles.

The jury also saw the records of the Cashapp account of Crosland that showed payments that he received from family members and associates of inmates housed in the federal correctional institution. Those payments, which occurred for a period of nine months, totaled $ 56,791. She did not report this about her federal tax statements.

“Those who work in the public service, especially in the application of the law and corrections, must be maintained at a higher standard,” said US prosecutor. “Crosland actions damage confidence in our prison systems while compromising the safety of Williamsburg FCI personnel and inmates.”

“Crosland smuggered drugs and other smuggling in the federal prison in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars in bribes,” said Eric Fehlman, a special agent in charge of the Office of the Department of Justice of the Region of the General Inspector General of Southeast. “Their corrupt actions endanger the security of the entire installation.”

“The IRS undertakes to work together with our laws on the application of the law to provide financial experience while investigating the people who participate in corruption, money laundering and tax fraud,” said the special agent in charge of Donald Eakins of the department of Criminal Research of the Charlotte Internal Income Service.

Crosland will be sentenced after a judge receives and reviews a report prior to the judgment of the United States probation office.
