The group demands an independent investigation in the real estate dispute – characteristics – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

A human rights organization, the initiative against abuse and torture of human rights (INAHURA), has given the alarm about the role of the police in a real estate dispute that involves a 79 -year -old woman.

The group requested an immediate police retirement for independent investigation into the matter.

Inahurat at a press conference asked President Bola Tinubu to order an independent investigation into the alleged police interference.

The group through its legal representative, Chief Maxwell OPARA promised to resist any attempt to suppress the rights of vulnerable citizens, insisting that the case must be handled transparently.

“We refuse to defend while the rights of innocent citizens, especially vulnerable people as a 79 -year -old grandmother, are trampled by those confident in defending the law.”

“The case, which involves an Isaac Rebecca, also known as Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, and Homadil Realty Limited, has been investigated by the Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC).

“In the heart of the case is Mrs. Collen Mero and Yesufu, an old woman who claims to be the legitimate owner of the disputed properties,” said the group.

Inahurat said that despite the convincing evidence, the agencies of application of the law have failed to guarantee justice for it.

“We are deeply concerned about the role of the police in investigations. Instead of allowing the EFCC to continue with their work, the police have taken measures that seem to protect the accused of responsibility, ”said the OPARA.

According to Inahurat, the EFCC had conducted an exhaustive investigation and obtained a court order that ordered the suspect to show why the properties should not be lost.

However, the group alleges that the police, instead of supporting this process, presented separate charges against the suspect.

The controversy was deepened after the Force Public Relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement on December 30, 2024, dismissing the accusations of police interference as “pranks.”

However, the Rights Group rejected this claim, insisting that there is credible obstruction evidence.

The group claimed that after their press conference on January 8, 2025, the Police allegedly hastened to present criminal charges against the suspect without notifying the plaintiffs.

“It is not the due process; It is about manipulating the system to protect certain interests, ”Opara claimed.

Inahurat, therefore, urged the President, the National Assembly and the Judiciary to intervene.

The group also requires independent investigation into the role of the police in the case.

He also demanded the immediate withdrawal of the IGP of the matter to allow the EFCC to continue his work.

Remember that the Nigerian police had warning the manufacturers of pranks to drag the name of IGP to terrestrial affairs.

Police had declared in the declaration: “The role of the NPF is mainly to maintain the law and order and guarantee public safety.

“The police only intervene in disputes when there are clear criminal elements involved.

“Similarly, the statement that the police disagree with the Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) is unfounded, ridiculous and without merit.

“The NPF maintains a cooperative and professional relationship with the EFCC, and there are no conflicts between the two agencies in this existing case or any other matter.

“Any suggestion of contrary is a shameless attempt to deceive the public and create unnecessary tension between both agencies.

“It is also vital to make it clear that if the parties involved in the dispute in question are aggravated and require the intervention of the PGI, there are adequate channels to follow.

“Instead of resorting to the blackmail of the media and trying to slander the reputation of the PGI or ridicule the police institution, interested parties must make official contact through the appropriate channels.

“The NPF is always open to addressing legitimate concerns and providing assistance when necessary, provided that the correct procedures are followed.”

Therefore, the police urged the public to ignore the unfounded statements and continue seeking police intervention on issues capable of triggering crisis and violence, since they are committed to promoting peace, unity and progress in the country .
