Alabama’s legislation that would grant the Governor and the authority of the Attorney General to make intermediate appointments of the Police Police approached one more step to the step on Wednesday.

Legislation, HB14It requires the approval of both the Attorney General and the Governor in an interim appointment that would last six months.

The legislation allows the two state constitutional officers to make the main appointments of the police for a city in which they determine that there is a continuous threat to public safety, or when the personnel levels fall significantly below their averages.

The bill is widely seen as pointing to Birmingham and Montgomery, two cities that fight with the scarcity of personnel and high crime rates.
