The Michigan Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee listens to arguments in favor and against the salary increase with tip

Lansing, Mich. (Wluc) – The minimum salary for the work worked is established to increase At almost $ 6 next Friday, an increase of 52% from the current rate of $ 3.93.

The Michigan Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee listened to activist groups and workers who obtain advice on whether Michigan should stop the increase or not.

The president and CEO of Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, Justin Winslow, says that Pobin workers deserve more money, but the current plan could have critical effects on small businesses.

“(If the increase is in force) will see the loss of employment,” Winslow said. “You will see some of the little ones, some of the restaurants more on the edge at this time move towards the closure.”

He continued to say that 83% of the servers are against the current plan and that the servers in places like Washington DC and Chicago that have experienced the salary increase of the action are now earning less money.

Ryan Sebolt, of the Federation of Work and Congress of Industrial Organizations of Michigan American, says that salary increases are necessary to ensure that workers can afford to live in the State.

He says that the increase could benefit Michigan’s economy as a whole.

“Increasing the lowest salary will go directly to our economy and will raise us all,” Sebolt said.

He also said that the data suggests that workers with tip probably win more money per hour and in advice if the increase enters into force.

If the Senate does nothing, the increase will automatically enter into force next Friday.
