Cleveland, Ohio (Woio) -19 investigated has discovered new disturbing details about Cleveland’s man accused of killing a 39-year-old woman during the weekend.

According to judicial records, Corey Sanders, 41, threatened Briekethia Pruitt with a firearm and is in active probation derived from a violent incident that involves Pruitt in 2020.

Pruitt was Found dead by a gunshot inside a vehicle in Judson Avenue Near E. 147th Street on Sunday morning.

Cleveland Police said the vehicle was registered in Sanders and cell phones data placed their phone in the crime scene area “at the approximate moment that the vehicle was abandoned.”

According to the police, Sanders and Pruitt lived together and he was the last person to be seen with her.

In August 2008, Sanders was arrested in Cleveland for brutally hitting his disabled mother in his department in Archwood Ave.

The woman told the police that her son hit her “twenty times or more” in her head and kicked her “about five or ten times.”

Sanders was accused of assault and criminal theft. He declared himself guilty of the charges and was sentenced to two years in prison in the Lorain Correctional Institution.

While he was in the control after liberation after his release from the prison in Ohio, Sanders was arrested in Flint, Michigan, in July 2011 with a weapon and drugged drugs.

“While she moved away from him, she stumbled upon some articles on the floor and fell to the couch. He then informed that he put on top of her and began to strangle her with her left hand while hitting her with a closed fist with her right hand, ”says the police report. “Em. Pruitt reported that she felt she was beaten on the left side of her head with a gun. He moved her head and heard her gun’s weapon.”

The officers found a bullet hole on the couch “with the hair of Mrs. Pruitt” along with a .380 gauge housing spent and a .380 taurus spectrum with a round in the camera on the floor next to the couch.

“We also observed red marks and a small laceration in Mrs. Pruitt’s neck, her upper lip had a deep laceration, and she had a small laceration on the left side of her head next to her ear,” said the police.

Sanders was accused in April 2020 for six charges of serious crimes, including murder attempt, criminal assault, aggravated thief and under disabilities.

The accusation also labeled it as a “repeated violent criminal.”

In November 2021, Sanders reached an agreement with prosecutors and declared himself guilty of weapons under disabilities and reduced the positions of assault attempt and criminal robbery.

Judge Cassandra Collier-Williams sentenced him to four years in prison with credit for the time he spent in jail after his arrest.

The judge said that Sanders could also win up to five days of credit for his sentence for each month that participated in educational programs while he was imprisoned.

While he was in prison, Sanders said he began to obtain a degree in social work because he wanted to “help veterans who experience PTSD” and “adolescent problems who faced abuse and negligence and family problems that come from chemical dependence.”

“All these areas that I have lived experience and I know I can help someone else,” Sanders wrote in a 2023 letter to a judge.

In a presentation of the Federal Court of 2011, a defense lawyer wrote that Sanders had a history of mental illness and “significant psychological and emotional problems as a result of his abusive childhood.”

“Corey Sanders Life is analogous to a poker game where the card deck was stacked against him from the beginning,” wrote lawyer Henry Scharg.

The lawyer said that Sanders was born as a “crack baby” from a drug addicted to drugs and was abused and careless during his adolescence.

“When Corey was 5 years old, his mother stabbed him 32 times, which resulted in his lining care location,” Scharg said. “He was hospitalized at age 11 for maniac depression.”

“There are no indications that Corey has received any necessary therapy, treatment or medications to address their drug addiction and mental health concerns,” he wrote.

The show records of the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction of Ohio Sanders were released from the Ross Correctional Institution in October 2023 and was placed in 26 months of supervision after liberation.

Prosecutors said he was also on active federal probation at the time of his arrest for the murder of Briekethia Pruitt.
