How many people died in the burning Wyoming tunnel accident? The third victim found as research on the cause continues near Green River

Green River, Wyo. – A third victim was found on Sunday in the remains of a burning accident inside a Wyoming road tunnel that involved 26 cars and trucks, authorities said.

At least five people were seriously injured in Friday’s accident throughout the Interestal 80 near the small city of Green River, Wyoming. The accident caused a fire inside the tunnel that completely destroyed six commercial vehicles and two passenger vehicles.

Most of the remains had been removed on Sunday, with less than 10 vehicles still inside the tunnel, said the sergeant. Jason Roascio with Wyoming Road Patrol.

But the snow was slowing down the work of federal and state researchers when they were vehicles per vehicle trying to rebuild the scene and determine what happened, he said.

“We hope that this will be the final fatality,” Roascio said.

No more details had been released on the three victims.

The photos distributed on Sunday showed the carbonized remains of two vehicles inside the tunnel.

The clash took place in the tube west of the twin tunnel under Castle Rock, a sandstone formation that looms over the city of Green River in the southwest region of the state.

The wreck and the posterior fire closed the interstatal, the main East-West Road corridor through Wyoming, and the traffic was redirected through Green River.

The tunnel was expected to open on Wednesday and handle traffic in both directions at the moment. The engineers have not been able to estimate when the west tunnel will open again.
