Why did the student Kiit Prakriti Lamsal died for suicide?

A Nepal National Prakriti Lamsal (20) was chasing its BTECH in computer science at Kiit University in Bhubaneswar. She was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday.

After the death of Prakriti Lamsal, several publications emerged on social networks claiming that her ex -boyfriend harassed her. Her cousin filed a police complaint claiming that the woman was blackmaker by a male student from the university, which led her to hang.

The police say that Lamsal was found dead in their hostel room. They received a complaint from a person identified as Siddhant Sigdel on Sunday night that their cousin had committed suicide in their hostel room.

“The police team immediately visited the place and confiscated the body. Our scientific team has compiled its laptop and telephone as required by the agitator student, ”said the Bhubaneswar Deputy Police Commission, Pinak Mishra. “We are conducting scientific research on the matter.”

A Kiit statement on Monday (February 17) said: “A Nepali student who studies in the third year of B-Tech committed suicide yesterday in the shelter. Why did protests exploded in Kiit in Bhubaneswar?

After the death of Prakriti Lamsal, at least 500 Nepali students began to protest on the Kiit campus in Bhubaneswar, after which they said they were evicted. The students blocked the road near Kiit, claiming that the authorities did not take any measure when Lamsal approached the International Relations Office of the Institute (IRO) to complain about the harassment by their lot partner.

The Kiit registrar, Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, confirmed that the student had filed a complaint with “bad behavior by the accused,” he reports The Indian Express. Iro officials advised both students and warned the defendant. However, they had not maintained anything in writing from the defendant, Mohanty told the publication.

As the protests at the university intensified, a senior police officer appealed to the students to maintain peace. Two police personnel balls were deployed to maintain the law and order.

The University ordered the Nepalese students to return home. They were filled in two buses and fell at Cuttack train station on Tuesday (February 18). In a video, a university authority is seen saying that they are feeding “40,000 free students”, which is more than “Nepal’s budget,” reports Fingerprint. Top He could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

A shared notice on social networks said that the University of Kiit said that “Sine dinner is closed for all International Nepal students.

According to Anil Prasad Yadav, a Nepal student, they were expelled from the shelter. “We went to the international office and sat during the night in a Dharna, but they sent us back. Finally we were asked to pack and go within an hour. We don’t know how we will go. We had no food. We are trying to get a ticket, “he told the news agency ANI.

Another student Rajan Gupta said they were made by force to vacate the shelter because they protested by the student who died for suicide. The staff members came and asked us to unemployed. They even hit those who were not packed quickly, ”he complained.

However, the institute then called to all Nepal students to “return to the campus and resume classes.” “The Kiit administration has made efforts to restore normality on campus and shelters to resume academic activities,” he said.

The U -turn came after the Nepal government intervened. The Odisha government also asked the University to let the students remain in the shelter.

Why did Nepal’s PM intervene?

The suicide and evacuation of the students caught the attention of the Government of Nepal. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said Monday that the country’s embassy in New Delhi sent two officers to advise students who were asked to leave the campus.

“Our Embassy in New Delhi has sent two officers to advise affected Nepalese students in Odisha. In addition, arrangements have been made to ensure that they have the option to remain in their shelter or return home, according to their preferences, ”he wrote in X.

The Nepal Embassy extended sincere condolences to the members of the Prakriti Lamsal family, the deceased student. “The educational institution has expressed its commitment to take the matter seriously and will insist on an independent and impartial investigation into the death” of the Nepali student, he said in a statement published in X.

The embassy also assured that she was in contact with the management of Kiit and the government of the state of Odisha about the situation of the students. He urged the institution to guarantee the safety of Nepal students residing there and received guarantee from the Kiit administration.

After the intervention of the embassy, the police arrested a third year student linked to the suicide of the 20 -year -old woman. The police have presented a case about the accusation that a male student placed his suicide, DCP Mishra said.

The Kiit administration has also called the “unfortunate” incident and said the police arrested the defendant. He also said that the university has made “total efforts to restore normality on campus and shelters to resume academic activities.”

What do we know about the defendant?

Police identified the defendant as AGVK Srivastava, 21, who is a Lucknow resident. He was arrested from outside the airport on Sunday night and was reserved under section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for suicide.

According to the FIR, the defendant was blackmailing Lamsal, which led her to take the extreme step.

Has Odisha responded?

As in the case of snowballs, Odisha’s Minister of Education, Suryabanshi Suraj, has expressed concern. He said that Prime Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has asked the authorities to deal with the matter with “greater gravity”, considering the positive relationship of India with Nepal. He also criticized Kiit for evicting Nepalese students, calling him an unfair movement.
