Kettlewell seeks Motherwell ‘balance’ to worry Celtic

Stuart Kettlewell says Motherwell must make the most of their chances against Celtic.

The coach believes it is “naive” to suggest his team can attack the reigning champions for 90 minutes, but knows they can try on Sunday.

During his tenure at Ross County, Kettlewell ended Celtic’s 35-match domestic cup winning streak in 2020, and Motherwell have drawn twice at Parkhead since joining the Lanarkshire club. The other two games, at Fir Park, were won by the visitors in added time.

“There have been a number of times in my time where we’ve tried, we’ve gone out and tried to score goals and be as offensive as possible against a team like Celtic,” Kettlewell said.

“It’s about finding a balance, not just for 90 minutes but for periods of 10 to 15 minutes to maximize the opportunities we have to attack them.

“I think it’s incredibly naive to think that you’re going to play your most attacking team for 90 minutes and go out after Celtic.

“You try to do that for 36 or 38 games a season and see what the result is going to be.”
