89-year-old woman killed in shooting and suicide attempt at Pennsylvania nursing home

An 89-year-old woman was killed Thursday at a Chester County nursing home.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was killed around 10:30 p.m. at the Manatawny Manor nursing home in East Coventry Township, according to reports from 6ABC and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe told 6ABC that a 90-year-old man shot the woman in her bedroom and then turned the gun on himself.

The man is currently hospitalized but his condition has not been made public.

“This investigation is currently being treated as a murder/attempted suicide case. Aside from the two people involved, there are no other injuries to report. There is no threat to the public or anyone else at the nursing home,” the Chester County District Attorney’s Office told the Inquirer.
