Phillips also declared himself guilty to Judge Sinead McMullan of a dangerous driving position, causing serious bodily damage to Thomas Traynor, in the same place on the same date.

Phillips, represented by the defense lawyer, Mark Nicholas and Antoinette Simon Bl, instructed by Darach McCarthy APPLICATIONS, was sent to a continuous bond for tests that are heard on March 7.

Nicholas told the court that Phillips continues to suffer the impact of a “very significant head injury that suffered fifteen years ago.”

“It has been handled for that (injury) and is taking medications,” said Nicholas.

Phillips was shot in the head and chest while sitting in a car in John’s Square, Limerick City, on May 24, 2010.

In 2012, the condemned gunman, Shane Mason of Sean Heuston Place, Limerick City, was imprisoned for 16 years after a jury in the Central Criminal Court declared him guilty of the attempt of murder of Phillips.

An eyewitness told the court that he saw Mason disassemble a bicycle and remove a black gun from his pants waist and shoot six shots in the Phillips car.

Mason, who had 179 previous convictions, then survived two separate weapons attacks, in January and May 2011.

After Mason shot him, Phillips spent a month in the hospital and had to learn to walk again at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dún Laoghaire.

In March 2021, Phillips was imprisoned for five and a half years with the last 18 months suspended after he admitted in the Court that he had a .22 homemade caliber gun and 88 rounds of ammunition, in 2020.

Phillips had thrown a bag containing the weapon and bullets of a car that was being persecuted by Gardaí on the outskirts of Limerick City, on March 26, 2020.

Phillips had moved away from Gardaí after they tried to stop their vehicle in Shelbourne Road, Limerick.

Phillips led to speed through the farms of the house, led to the wrong side of the road, broke a series of red lights and was finally arrested in parten, Co Clare.

Gardaí was alerted by the bag containing the weapon and ammunition by a passer -by with eagle eyes.

The judgment judge, Tom O’Donnell, now retired, said at that time that Phillips had aligned “with a serious criminal element” and that he had been “holding” the bag “to pay a drug debt.”
