Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert explains how to address the team before practice

Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Justin Herbert addressed his team before practice this week as they began preparation for their Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints.

According to the star quarterback himself, it wasn’t entirely out of the ordinary. Herbert said he usually does it, or star defenseman Derwin James handles the duties before everything starts.

“We were talking about the pace of practice.” Herbert said. “It was just about making sure everyone was following the right guidelines. Sliding, walking, getting the right depth on all our routes.

Coming off a Week 7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in which Hebert’s offense had to settle for five field goals, it was understandable that viewers thought the game could have been something a little more dramatic.

But the need to talk about pace management makes sense while practicing on a short week after a Monday night game. Most notably, the need to chat about routes and such is quite important, considering an impressive seven of Herbert’s weapons are woundedmeaning some names deeper on the depth chart could see plenty of playing time against the Saints.

Either way, the Chargers are not yet at the “exclusive meeting of players in crisis” stage and plan to avoid approaching it.
