The East Cleveland Cabinet Chief says it is not guilty in the case of bribery

Cleveland – East Cleveland’s chief lawyer said his client is innocent and believes that Michael Smedley was deceived by two brothers accused of bribing him.

Smedley declared himself innocent of federal bribery and conspiracy charges on Wednesday.

The prosecutors accused Smedley of using his work as chief of cabinet of the mayor of East Cleveland to help Muzzammil and Zubair to Zubair perpetuate his schemes to disappoint investors.

The researchers said Smedley accepted payments, faces and tickets for the brothers’ brown games in exchange for their help, suggesting that the couple had political influence.

The prosecutors said that it included Smedley by appointing Zubair Al Zubair as an international economic advisor of East Cleveland, a title that Zubair lists on his company’s website.

Smedley is also accused of providing Zubair cards from the city visiting and giving both badly Cleveland police siblings.

Federal prosecutors said the brothers used that appearance of political power to convince people to give them money for their schemes, including millions of dollars for a cryptocurrency business that was supposed to move to Nela Park in East Cleveland.

Actually, prosecutors said that everything was fraud, until Zubair’s statement to Zubair that he was a gift.

Smedley’s lawyer believes that his client was also deceived.

“Like many other people, they told him that they were some kind of prince and that they wanted to do some type of business in the area,” said lawyer Charles Tyler. “As a person who wanted to see the grown city, I was interested in listening to what they had to say.”

But Tyler denied Smedley to have accepted the payments of the brothers or have a commercial relationship with Al Zubairs.

“There are no signed contracts that no one can produce between my client and these brothers,” Tyler said.

The brothers declared innocent fraud, money laundering, conspiracy and other positions.

On Wednesday, the couple asked the judge for new lawyers and even said that, at one time, they wanted to represent themselves.

The trial for Smedley and The Brothers is scheduled to start in April.

East Cleveland Law Director placed Smedley on administrative license paid last week after his accusation.
