Prosecutors identify the suspect in 1974 the disappearance of Boone County

Boone County, Ky. (WXIX) – A suspect has been identified in the 1974 disappearance of a man from Boone County.

In a letter to the detectives, the lawyer of the Commonwealth of Boone County, Louis Kelly, says that he believes that a man named Bobby Franxman is the suspect of the disappearance and Alleged murder of Ed Nichols.

Nichols was 22 when he disappeared on December 3, 1974.

The day he disappeared, he told his sisters that he was going to hunt with a friend, David Stites, who was the one who also reported him missing.

Stites told the researchers that the two had separated and that he never saw Nichols again.

Two Boone County detectives who have worked the case for years, Coy Cox and Tim Adams, told Fox19 now in 2021 that they were close to solving it.

The couple delivered the entire case file to the prosecutor to see what could be done.

That’s when Kelly’s letter comes into play.

The letter says that there have been different theories over the years about the death of Nichols, including the victim killed by wildlife, suicide or departure alone. However, everyone has been refuted.

Prosecutors say that a Stites relative told them that Stites witnessed that his friend was killed.

Stites supposedly told his family member that he and Nichols had met several others, including Franxman, the day they were hunting.

Nichols and Franxman began to argue about a woman, which supposedly led Franxman to shoot Nichols in his face, killing him.

According to the reports, Stites told his relative that he was forced to bury the body.

According to the witness account and the evidence they have in the case, prosecutors believe that Franxman is the suspect.

However, he cannot be accused because he died in 2007.

In addition, Stites died for suicide in December 2022.

The detectives say it happened one day after they served him a citation to testify to a large jury related to the case of Nichols.

The members of the 22 -year -old family are asking anyone with information to be presented so that they can find the remains of Nichols and take it home.
