Bangladesh student group that led the uprising against Sheikh Hasina to launch a political party

The Bangladesh students, who headed the revolt to expel former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year, will begin a new political party on Friday, February 28. Nahid Islam, a group’s key student leader, resigned from the interim government of Muhammad Yunus to lead the new party.

By announcing the launch of the party, Islam said that “the ideologies of existing political parties do not represent all the people of the country.”

According to the organizers of the group, the party aims to “meet the aspiration of New Bangladesh” and will begin its trip with a great concentration in Mank Mia Avenue, south of the Parliament building in Dhaka.

Samanta Shermeen, spokesman for the Jatio Nagorik Committee, a platform for the student group, said the students have taken the initiative to form the party after the 2024 uprising.

Talking with Ani, he said: “After the July 2024 uprising, new hopes and aspirations in Bangladesh have been born. Due to these hopes and aspirations, students have taken the initiative to form a new political party. “

She said the group realized that existing political parties were not able to. “The existing state structure is not absolutely capable of making Bangladesh a new modern state. We want to build Bangladesh, a modern and important country in southern Asia, connecting people around the world and adding new ideas, ”added Samanta.

She emphasized that the country had been under state suppression during the last 53 years and the institutions have been destroyed. “Institutions have been used for personal and personal purposes.”

Samanta said that the new political party will focus on Bangladesh’s rights to “take everyone.” “We believe that the people of Bangladesh have certain rights. According to these rights, our future policy will be observed. We are talking about rights -based policy, we are talking about the services policy, we are talking about the policy of the manifesto to take everyone, ”he added.

“Dr. Yunus does not represent Jamat or BNP, Dr. Yunus represents the uprising and all the advisors represent the uprising. They do not represent any political party,” he said.

She mentioned that Bangladesh’s ties with all nations should be based on “equity and equality” and policies should not depend on subsidies or loans. “We believe that relations with all countries should be based on equity and equality. It is necessary to ensure that any type of subsidy or loan does not interrupt Bangladesh’s policy,” he added.

A revolution led by students deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year, after weeks of protests and violence.
