The president of FOP talks about violence against police officers

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) – In the last three years, 1,000 officers have been shot while in uniform.

Until now in 2025, 55 officers have been beaten and 13 killed.

“We have seen a brand of violence over the years, I think there was a movement at some point in the last years of the vilipendium of the application of the law,” said the fraternal order of the Alabama Police, Everette Johnson.

Johnson, a retired lieutenant from the Montgomery Police, says that while an injured officer and his family receive the attention they need, his partners cannot stop immediately to cry.

“You must understand that the mission continues while my brother can be injured in the hospital, trying to recover from those injuries that I still have to follow,” said Johnson.

Johnson admits, in the past, the Montgomery Police Department was not doing enough for his officers. That turned out that many abandoned the department, which led to a decrease in labor and an increase in criminal activity.

But now, he says, things are returning to normal.

“Currently his return trend where he must be. Firmly support to Chief Jim Graboys and the use of the mayor who has placed on him to lead this agency, ”said Johnson.
