The agency did not say who had made the request.

Control measures include the “appearing requirement before the judicial authorities every time they are convened,” said the statement.

The agency said the Tates were “warned that violating these obligations deliberately can result in the judicial control being replaced by a stricter deprivation of the measure of freedom.”

His departure occurred after the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emil Hurzeanu, said this month that an American official in the current Trump administration had expressed interest in the legal case of the brothers in Romania at the Munich Security Conference. The minister insisted that he was not equivalent to pressure.
