A district court judge listened to arguments on Thursday around the admission of additional discovery information before Nichole Rice trial that will begin on March 17 in Grand Forks.

Rice has been accused of murder in the stabbed death of Anita Knutson, 18, her roommate at that time.

Defensor lawyers William Sand and Gogen Bains asked the judge of the Central District Court of the North, Richard Hagar, at the Minot Hearing for a delay, saying that they were granted a large information file of 90 gigabytes of the Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday for review.

They said that most of the information in the documents were previously given, and that it was taking too long to review the information of the boiler so close to the trial. They also argued that it was a fragment of time for their computers, taking five hours to download.

The state prosecutors Tiffany Sorgen and Christopher Nelson said that although the defense had already seen much of the information in the archives, the new information was starred in the archive, which facilitated the search. Sorgen said the changes were observed on a audit path page and were easy to find.

Hagar concluded the conversation reminding both lawyers of their “Licenses are at stake” If they didn’t tell him the truth.

Wanting to advance the case, Hagar prohibited the discovery from being added to the case after next Tuesday.

“There should not be a new discovery from this moment” Without a convincing reason to drive a continuation, he said. Talking to the lawyers, he added, “I will detect you and I will sanction you if it is a problem.”

“I will not be kind to the last minute discovery” Said, “So please take it into account.”

Having faced multiple delays, Rice’s trial arrives three years and one day after his arrest.

The trial moved to Grand Forks because the potential jury had shown prejudice to rice in questionnaires. Knutson’s murder has received a lot of media coverage of Knutson’s murder, including the creation of a documentary.

Prosecutors also requested the identification of a private investigator hired by the defense as an expert witness and requested a distinction between a witness as a “expert” either “agent.” Expert witnesses can trust any source of information that they consider appropriate.

Hagar determined that the expert opinion of the defense will be admissible in the trial.
