María lives in Minneapolis with her two children.

He works long hours, in two jobs, to keep his family. The money he earns pays the salary of other workers in his neighborhood when he buys in his stores. She is respectful of law. She pays taxes. She is a resident of our community and could be any of our neighbors.

But because it is undocumented, they tell us that it is a threat to our security. We are asked to believe that a mother who works hard, provides her children and contributes to her community is a danger to our national security.

Maria left the father of her children due to her history of abusive behavior. He stops to give money and see the children, so she does not want to ban it from her home. But when she has been drinking, she can become violent with her, and she has called the police to remove him from her house.

But now, Maria is afraid to call the police. If she is arrested and deported, her children American citizens will be left here without her mother and will probably end up parenting care.

And even if the police can build a case against their ex -partner, the work of prosecutors to win their cooperation and ensure witnesses for trial will be much more difficult than it used to be. His former partner can threaten to call Ice if he cooperates with the Prosecutor’s Office, or she and other potential witnesses may be afraid to go to the court due to the fear that ICE will be outdoors.
