The map reveals exactly how migrants are reaching the channel to the United Kingdom | United Kingdom | News

A fascinating map reveals how criminals are avoiding the French authorities by using an escape on the law to prevent the police from intercepting small boats that will be launched to cross the La Mancha channel.

The laws in France prevent the police from stopping the boats when they are in the water, so the smugglers force the possible illegal immigrants to go out to the sea to meet the crafts that expect to take them to England.

But criminals can soon be arrested since the French ministers are considering lifting the prohibition of ships involving the police once they are in the water.

According The telegraphFrench Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has asked for a new approach to stop the tide of migrants who use the Gallic coast as a springboard to reach the United Kingdom.

Under the new proposals, Mr. Retilleau wants to stop the use of tactical smuggers of the so -called ‘taxi boats’ to pick up the passengers of the sea.

As this illustration shows, criminal gangs throw their boats from the coast before balancing the coast to pick up water migrants, since the police have no power to intervene.

As is, the French authorities can only intervene in illegal crosses at this time if small ships are obviously becoming difficulties and putting lives.

Retailleau said: “We need to rethink our approach to be able to intercept the ships. We must be able to intercept them 300 meters from the coast.

“They have a naval service, the gendarmerie, and must be able to intervene in shallow waters.”

More than 108,000 people requested asylum in the United Kingdom last year, the highest number for any period of 12 months since the current records began in 2001, according to the figures.

The total of 108,138 asylum seekers increased 18% of 91,811 in 2023, according to data published by the Interior Ministry.

The previous registration was 103,081 in the 12 months until December 2002.

The migrants who made the trip to the United Kingdom throughout the La Mancha channel in small boats represented 32% of the total in 2024.

The data show that 38,079 asylum seekers were being temporarily housed in hotels at the end of December, more than 2,428 of 35,651 at the end of September.

This is the second consecutive quarterly increase, although the figure is still somehow below the recent 56,042 peak at the end of September 2023.
