Israeli army attacks Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza and detains director

GAZA CITY, Palestine

The Israeli army raided the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza on Friday and detained its director for questioning, according to a Palestinian official.

Shamiyeh, deputy undersecretary for health in Gaza. Ministry, he told Anadolu.

Shamiyeh said the Israeli military keeps all patients and medical staff inside a hospital room, with no information about their fate.

The Israeli army detained dozens of Palestinians evacuated from the hospital, forcing them to strip to their underwear and gather in an open area in cold weather.

Shamiyeh urged international organizations and the UN “to intervene immediately to protect health workers and patients, and to pressure the Israeli army to withdraw from hospitals in northern Gaza.”

Previously, the Health Ministry said it lost contact with healthcare staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital following the Israeli army raid.

In an earlier statement, the Israeli military stated that its forces “are operating in the Kamal Adwan Hospital area in Jabalia, based on intelligence information about the presence of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure in the area.”

Israel has continued a devastating offensive against Gaza since an attack in October last year by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

Since then, more than 42,800 people have died, mostly women and children, and more than 100,500 have been injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli attack has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has caused severe shortages of food, drinking water and medicine.

Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
