I want to keep going and show the fans what I can do – Astley

Ryan Astley wants to move on after the defender marked his first league start for Dundee with a win and a clean sheet.

The 23-year-old signed in January and featured in the League Cup, but had only appeared once as a substitute in the Premiership before joining the team for last weekend’s win at Motherwell.

Astley will hope to retain his place when St Johnstone visit Dens on Saturday.

“It’s been difficult,” he said. “We have a really good team, I knew that coming here and that I would have to fight to have a chance in the team.

“I feel like I’ve done it, I’ve never sulked, I’ve just kept going and worked hard, and I hope I’ve taken my opportunity.

“I just want to move on and show the fans, first of all, what I can do, why I came here, the coach, and just enjoy my football.

“I really enjoyed the weekend, obviously the result helped, but now I’m ready to move on and show what I can do.

“Obviously I want to play every game, who wouldn’t want to? But as a team my main goal is to win games and keep a clean sheet, and that keeps me in the team.”
