Suspect sought in fatal shooting of 44-year-old man in Bessemer

A suspect has been charged and is wanted in the overnight shooting death of a 44-year-old man in Bessemer.

Kalil Judkins, 20, is charged with murder in the Thursday night killing of Tavares Deone Moore.

The shooting occurred at 8:56 p.m. in the 2900 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Moore was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

Bessemer Police Det. Justin Burmeister said Moore was shot several times but was able to speak briefly with officers before he died.

Investigators obtained the murder warrant for Judkins on Friday and are actively searching for him.

Burmeister said the motive has not yet been determined.

Moore is Bessemer’s 11th homicide this year.

Across Jefferson County there have been 166 homicides, including the 11 in Bessemer.
