Steuben County woman charged with welfare fraud and grand theft

A Steuben County woman has been charged with welfare fraud and grand theft following an investigation by county officials. Amanda K. Grant, 37, of Addison, was arrested Oct. 24 after allegedly submitting false information to obtain $15,858 in public assistance benefits, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators allege Grant submitted fraudulent filings to the county Department of Social Services from March 2023 to April 2024, leading to charges of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, welfare fraud in the third degree and theft. older in third grade. . All charges are felonies.

Grant was arraigned before the Central Court of Investigation and released. The Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation with support from the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.
