Park City Councilmembers Express Interest in Expanding Park Silly Sunday Market Calendar

The Park Silly Sunday Market, which features a variety of vendors and live music on Main Street each summer, used to operate 14 days a year.

But during the event latest contract negotiation with Park Citythat number dropped to 11, primarily due to concerns from Main Street businesses about competition for customers.

With only 11 Sundays this year, Park Silly Sunday Market chief executive Kate McChesney said the event was still a huge success.

“Obviously we found some successes, but at the same time, it’s been wonderful,” McChesney said. “We average 17,000 people per Sunday.”

Park City Councilman Jeremy Rubell said he would be willing to consider more days for the event.

“If there is a request for more days, I think that’s something the council should consider,” Rubell said.

McChesney said they would be willing to have the discussion. Council members Bill Ciraco and Ed Parigian also said they would consider a request for more days.

But Councilman Ryan Dickey said he is comfortable with the 11-day status quo, given the current lack of criticism from Main Street businesses.

“It seems like we’ve really gotten to this really happy place where the community welcomed the event and we’re doing well,” Dickey said. “I’d like us to probably stay the way we are.”

The council agreed that the 2025 season will continue with just 11 Sundays. A future discussion on increasing market days in 2026 could come after next summer.

The Park Silly Sunday Market has three years left on its existing contract with the city. The agreement includes a three-year renewal option, which the city council could later extend until 2030.
