Fort Worth security guard called police after recognizing Blue Alert fugitive

Seth Altman was arrested at Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth on Friday night.

Altman, 33, had been on the run for three weeks after allegedly shooting a police officer in Memphis, Texas, southeast of Amarillo.

Much of Texas woke up to a Blue Alert on Friday morning, leaving many wondering: what is a Blue Alert?

A Union Gospel Mission security guard recognized Altman from the alert when he checked in and called police.

“With that he was able to say, okay, this gentleman could be wanted for a crime in another city,” said Fort Worth Police Officer Tracy Carter.

Officers were able to arrest Altman without incident.

“He actually stood up with the officers, because of the crime, said hey, we’re going to put handcuffs on you for our safety and yours and he said okay. They were able to get him into the patrol car,” Carter said. .

According to the Texas DPS, Altman shot the police chief in Memphis, Texas, on October 3.

The chief was serving a warrant against Altman, who was wanted for robbery. He allegedly shot the police chief several times and fled.

The police chief was taken to the hospital and released days later.

“We are all a family. It doesn’t matter if you are with FWPD or our departments throughout the city or throughout the state, that helps us too. If we know that we can do something to help bring closure, to bring to justice someone who committed a crime, we are committed to doing it,” Carter said.

Altman was on the run for three weeks.

During that time, the state and the FBI offered a $15,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest.

He was also included on the list of the state’s 10 most wanted fugitives.

“Thank you to the security guard who was working that day and the responding officers and everyone who was involved in this arrest,” Carter said.

Altman is currently in the Tarrant County Jail waiting to be brought back to Hall County to face attempted capital murder charges.

His bail is currently set at $1 million.
