Ben Simmons and Dennis Schroder attack heckler in tense confrontation

Ben Simmons didn’t appreciate being heckled by a fan before being passionately defended by his teammate on the way back to the Nets locker room after a loss to the Magic.

A video posted on social media captured what appeared to be a young fan calling Simmons “trash” after the Nets star passed him in the player tunnel at Kia Arena in Orlando. Brooklyn fell 116-101 to the home team on Friday night.

Simmons kept walking but said, “Why didn’t you say it when I was there, py?”

The situation did not end there.

Nets guard Dennis Schroder, in his second season in Brooklyn, returned and asked a different fan, “Who’s making fun of Ben?” The fan immediately pointed towards the line.

Schroder approached and confronted the interlocutor, but what he said could not be understood in the video.

An adult, who according to the social media post is the person’s father, attempted to get the young fan to move away from the situation while other Nets players lingered.

The situation finally calmed down after a brief discussion between the interlocutor and Schroder.

Simmons has seven points, six rounds and only three assists in the game, the Nets’ second consecutive loss to start the season.

The former 76ers No. 1 overall pick has been limited by injuries and played in just 57 total games during his first two seasons with the Nets.

This has made him an easy target for critics.

Even when playing, he has been far from the former All-Star he showed in Philadelphia, averaging just 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists during his two-plus seasons in Brooklyn.
