The Warren County Board of Supervisors, at its regular meeting Monday, weighed in on issues ranging from the LeTourneau boat ramp to the new Riverfront Park project to utilities connected to the new Warren County Jail.

The board unanimously approved the winning bid for the LeTourneau Landing boat ramp improvements, which totaled $474,138.54 and was awarded to Maynord Landscaping. Currently, the ramp is inaccessible during low water conditions.

County Engineer Keith O’Keefe said improvements will include a dredging operation to remove sediment that has built up on the top of the ramp over the years, as well as the placement of new concrete structures. The contract term for the project is 90 days.

The board also approved a motion to announce construction improvements to the soon-to-be-built Riverfront Park.

“The overall plan includes a covered stage area and then a deck area for people to bring lawn chairs and blankets and that kind of stuff to sit and watch entertainment and hold community events there,” O’Keefe said. “We’ll also have a bathroom and a concession stand area, and then we’ll have a play area for the kids.”

O’Keefe said there will also be a lighted pedestrian path and exercise areas. The project will go out to tender in December.

The new park will be built on a five-and-a-half-acre site donated by the Golding family of Golding Barge Lines. The park is intended to replace the original Riverfront Park, which closed in 2022 due to erosion issues.

In other matters, the board also:

  • Two motions passed to sign interlocal agreements regarding the new Warren County Jail. One of the agreements was for Culkin Water to provide water and maintenance services to the new jail. The other agreement was for the city of Vicksburg to provide sewer service and maintenance to the facility.
  • The Warren County Administrator position has been approved for advertising. The current administrator, Loretta Brantley, will retire effective October 31.
